The IMDO work with the Department of Transport and the Marine Institute in responding to the needs of an emerging offshore wind sector in Ireland.

The IMDO works in tandem with the Ports Co-ordination Group to ensure timely coordination aligned with national policy and actively participates in OREDP 2 (Offshore Renewable Energy Development Plan) to ensure a coordinated response from ports to the offshore wind energy opportunity. This involves aligning efforts with relevant policies, implementing appropriate planning measures, and adhering to consenting regulations.

Coordinated Response

Research and Review

The IMDO aims to conduct a comprehensive review to identify relevant research on offshore wind opportunities in Ireland and the role of ports in realising these opportunities. This helps to make informed decisions and drive progress in the industry.

Industry Liaison

The IMDO actively engages with relevant industry groups, including ports and shipping companies, to facilitate the exchange of information. By fostering strong relationships, we promote collaboration and ensure a well-informed industry ecosystem.

Stakeholder Engagement

The IMDO supports the Department of Transport in engaging with stakeholders in the offshore renewable energy industry, including industry representatives and groups. By building new and constructive relationships across all stakeholder groups, the IMDO fosters a collaborative and inclusive environment for the industry's advancement.

Informing the Sector

The IMDO plays an active role in informing the offshore wind sector about the collective opportunity that exists in Irish ports. The IMDO strives to facilitate the smooth rollout of offshore wind projects by sharing valuable insights and fostering a conducive environment for growth.

Transition to On-Shore Power Supply

The IMDO collaborates with the Department of Transport to facilitate the transition of relevant vessels to on-shore power supply. This entails analysing infrastructure and grid requirements and assessing similar needs at other Irish ports.

International Networking

The IMDO facilitates networking opportunities with international ports that have successfully developed offshore wind energy infrastructure. Through engagement in relevant EU fora and leveraging the Atlantic Strategy mechanism, the IMDO promotes knowledge sharing and collaboration on a global scale.
