RTÉ Nationwide went to Foynes and met with the Shannon Foynes Port Company CEO as well as the Chair of the Shannon Estuary Economic Task Force. During their visit, they discussed the future of the port and estuary in Ireland's Offshore Renewable Energy ambitions.

During their program from September 11, RTÉ Nationwide states that “the value of current trade handled by the port of Foynes is eight and a half billion euro per annum, with associated economic benefits of 1.9, all supporting nearly 4000 jobs.”

To track how Shannon Foynes Port Company developed to its current level, RTÉ presenter Anne Cassin Spoke to Shannon Foynes Port Company CEO Pat Keating, who spoke about the port’s thirty-year master plan vision 2041, launched ten years ago.

Pat Keating said the masterplan “identified the huge potential afforded by the Shannon Estuary from a port development perspective.” But, he added, “it also identified some of the capacity requirements that were needed in order to realise those opportunities.”

Regarding the timeline, Pat Keating said: “We would hope to have that construction finished and commissioned by the end of this decade.” This would be, he added, “in synergy and in parallel with the Green Atlantic Moneypoint project.”

“By that point, I think the estuary’s role and the development will be transformative for this region and indeed the country.”
