Call for Papers: Innovations for Shipping in the Context of New Environmental Policies

For this special issue, Elsevier is seeking high-quality original research studies and reviews on (but not limited to) the following topics:
- Use of data and big data for maritime shipping.
- Use of artificial intelligence for maritime shipping.
- Use of autonomous ships.
- Use of electric vessels.
- Alternative sustainable maritime fuels.
- Renewable energy for maritime navigation.
- Innovative operational approaches for maritime shipping.
In its call for papers, Elsevier clarifies the importance of maritime shipping within international trade, citing the approximate 11 billion tonnes of goods carried by sea in 2021(UNCTAD, 2022). The organisation goes on to cite the greenhouse gases attributed to the maritime industry (2.9% as of 2018, as per IMO, 2021)
Guest editors will include Prof. Laurent Fedi, KEDGE BS, CESIT, Maritime Lab, Marseille, France; Dr. Olivier Faury, EM Normandie, Métis Lab., Le Havre, France; Dr. Patrick Rigot-Muller, Maynooth University, School of Business, Maynooth, Ireland; Dr. Ali Cheaitou, University of Sharjah, Sharjah, United Arab Emirates.
The manuscript submission information and schedule is as follows:
- 1 June 2023: Opening of the Virtual Special Issue
- 1 January 2024: Deadline of manuscript submission (first submission)
- 1 March 2024: Closure of the Virtual Special Issue
The submitted papers should consider the environmental and sustainability policies related to maritime transportation such as emission taxation, speed limitation, containers lost overboard, emission control areas and others.
